Maria Simmons is an emerging artist from Hamilton, Ontario, the ancestral Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Confederacy land as determined by the Dish with One Spoon treaty. She specializes in textile and media installation. She graduated from McMaster University in 2017 with a BFA. She is an active curator and member of the Hamilton Audio Visual Node (HAVN). She takes inspiration from myth, superstition, and the body. Her work aims to evoke simultaneous feelings of wonder and perturbation, as though the viewer is witnessing the creation of a new myth.
